Ally McCoist's men had come out on top against Clydesdale Bank Premier League opposition in the last round of the competition when they dumped then league leaders Motherwell.

Rangers finally claimed their long-awaited first away win in the Irn-Bru Scottish Third Division thanks to a 2-0 victory against Clyde.
Previous league results on the road had been less than inspiring this season with draws at Peterhead, Berwick and Annan, as well as an embarrassing defeat to Stirling Albion.

Rangers crashed out of the Ramsdens Cup at the hands of Queen of the South in the quarter-finals following a dramatic penalty shoot-out after both sides were reduced to 10 men.
The tie was still deadlocked at 2-2 after extra-time but it was Queens who eventually came out on top 4-3 on spot kicks following an epic night at Ibrox.
